A group of area citizens have banded together to open a food co-op in the Rockford Area since we are lacking a grocery store. There are about 10 of us that meet once a month. We have visited other co-op’s and talked with board members about the process. Last year we invited a professional to our meeting that provided all of the steps for starting a food co-op.

We printed a guide of “How to Start A Food Co-op” which is a great reference and found online at www.cgin.coop
Another great resource we have found is the Food Co-op Initiative and their website has tons of information. www.foodcoopinitiative.coop
National Cooperative Grocers Association and also all of the MN Food Co-ops are a great source of information, visit them to get an idea of what a food co-op is like. Ours may be a little more of a conventional store but it will be member owned!
If you have some time to volunteer we welcome you to come to one of our regular meetings.
